Stephen Whisler was born in 1953 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Whisler lived for many years in Manhattan, and spent years more in Napa, California before moving to the Hudson Valley where he now lives and works in Saugerties. He received his MFA at Claremont Graduate University in 1981after getting his BA from the University of California Davis in 1976, and has been exhibiting steadily since 1979.
