About Us
“ The Gallery searches for those powerhouse artists whose work has the extraordinary quality of putting back in you what you forgot—like a subconscious memory transplant on the thin film of living.”
Chris Freeman
“We created Private Public to hold space for work that doesn’t apologize—for scale, for complexity, for asking something of the viewer. It’s not just about seeing art. It’s about being challenged by it, disrupted by it, made more alert to the world and yourself.”
Matthew McNamara
Director Christopher Freeman has developed Private Public in the heart of Hudson, New York, as a center for artists and curators to show large-scale work and as a space to bring internationally significant art to the burgeoning community.
Partner Matthew McNamara helps shape the curatorial and public life of Private Public, with a focus on marketing, programming, and community engagement. As co-owner, he works to build connections between artists and audiences—whether through exhibitions, online platforms, or opening dinners—strengthening the gallery’s role as a gathering space within Hudson’s creative landscape.
